Jack’s Dusty Disco Vinyl Mix

“The Glimmers appear at Joshua Brooks on Saturday, 16th May 2015.

The mix was recorded by Jack Hairbrain, who had this to say:
“I love DJs who can play Basic Channel alongside Madonna and pull it off. Optimo can do it. The Glimmers can do it. I’m sure there are others out there who share a similarly omnivorous yet discerning approach to track selection and consummate skill in putting it all together, but there aren’t many. This mixing on this mix is sort of rough but my MO was to choose tracks that could be listened to start to finish as songs in their own right, something I think the Glimmers are very good at. I tried to choose disco tracks (in the broad sense of the word) that reminded me of the kind of tracks the Glimmers might play (in the case of Game Above My Head, and Brylliant they were tracks I first heard in Glimmers’ mixes). I tried to convey a sense of fun, hence the Italo and Level 42; in the words of Adam Ant, “ridicule is nothing to be scared of”. I’ve often considered having that as a tattoo. There’s a few Manchester tracks on there- one by Glowing Palms on Ruf Dug’s label, Ruff Kutz, and the closer, Reach for Love by Marcel King is Shaun Ryder’s favourite track on Factory records. Marcel was from Moss Side and one of Manchester’s great unsung heroes.”
